Kaibauk* necklace (40cm) Materials: The metal part of the necklace is gold vermeil. Orange beads on this necklace are taken from traditional Timorese dowry necklace. In the old days, 1 (one) orange bead equals 1 (one) buffalo during exchanges of wealth during a marriage. *Kaibauk is a Timorese headdress worn by village chiefs. They are also worn by dancers during traditional ceremonies. It is a sign of leadership. Kaibauk is kept in a village sacred house and can only be taken out of the house with full traditional ceremonies.
